In Celebration of Hispanic Heritage

According to the Roman tradition, we trace our cultural roots to the fall of Troy – to the escape of Aeneas from the city destroyed by the Achaeans, and his eventual marriage into the family of the Latin king.

In fact our origins are far more complex. We are both: Greek and Trojan; Roman and Barbarian; Arab and Jew; believer and infidel; foreigner and indigenous; conqueror and subject; master and slave.

We are black AND white AND brown, rather than black OR white OR brown. We are “colorful” persons, rather than persons of color.

We come from many countries, but we are only one people.

We are simply members of one race: the Human Race – La Raza.

In celebration of our heritage, let us reflect on our origins and aftermaths, and request from our inner being apologies and virtual reparations, for all the injustices committed against ourselves.
